As the world embraces digital platforms and technologies, the field of instructional design has been rapidly evolving to keep up with emerging technologies. Among this industry's many current and new technologies, Micro-learning and Learning Experience Platforms (LXP) are two of the most notable.

We begin with Microlearning, which breaks down learning content into small, easily digestible chunks accessed on most computers, mobile devices, and tablets (Dolasinski & Reynolds, 2020). With this approach to learning, learners have greater flexibility and convenience in their learning process. Video, podcast, and interactive modules are some ways microlearning can be delivered, and microlearning has been shown to increase the engagement and retention of learners.

LXPs are another emerging trend in instructional design that is quickly gaining popularity. These types of Learning Management Systems (LMS) focus on delivering personalized learning experiences to participants. LXPs use artificial intelligence algorithms to create personalized learning paths, provide real-time feedback, and track user progress (Eggmann, 2022). Additionally, LXPs offer social learning features that allow students to connect with each other and share knowledge and resources. This trend has become popular as it offers students a more engaging and personalized learning experience, which can lead to better learning outcomes.

The fields of micro-learning and LXPs are just two examples of how technology is revolutionizing instructional design. More trends are expected to emerge as we continue to see technological advancements. To create more effective and engaging student learning experiences, instructional designers should stay current with these trends and incorporate them into their teaching strategies.
